Support Division

Captain David Pauluhn

The Support Division is the second largest of the three Divisions of the Overland Police Department. The Director of the division is Capt. David Pauluhn, a eighteen year veteran of the agency.

The Support Division consists of the following units; Clerical, Community Services, Maintenance, Health & Rabies, and Purchasing.

The Community Services Unit (CSU) is designed to help the Police Department better relate to the community. The CSU officer/s teaches DARE classes and provides police resources in all our local elementary schools, teaches Safety Town programs to younger children during the summer, and assists in many other services to the community. The CSU also organizes the annual Community Services Golf Tournament. The Overland Police Department is involved in several other community programs to improve the quality of life of our residents. Some of these programs include the Police Explorer Program, Vacation Checks, File of Life, and Project Backpack.

The Clerical Unit of the police department is staffed with several highly skilled employees, all of which have many years of service with the department. They have the responsibility for police data entry and storage, microfilm record storage, addressing citizen requests for police reports and providing general information to the public. These employees are the true backbone of our police record system and office support.

The Maintenance Unit of the police department is staffed with two full time employees who have the responsibility for cleaning and first line repair of the police department buildings. The staff does an outstanding job of cleaning and repair of the 14,000 plus sq. feet of the main police building which is used around the clock. They also maintain the police department range, located across the street from the main police building, and the western police sub station, located at 2500 Ashby Road, Building "D" (near Wild Acres Park).

Our Health & Rabies officer is far from being “just a dog catcher”. He is responsible for addressing numerous other situations that help insure the health and safety of the community. On any one day, he may address tall grass, improper trash storage, or rodent issues. This is in addition to rescuing over 200 stray animals from the street per year and bringing them to a safe location where their owners can find them. Our Health & Rabies officer is a Nationally Certified Animal Control Officer.

The Purchasing responsibility for the Police Department is a major task. Purchasing consists of supplying all necessary items for the everyday Police operations. This includes the uniforms, specialized equipment and supplies for maintaining the 24 hour operations of the Police Department. This duty also includes overseeing the maintenance of the police vehicle fleet, providing all office and maintenance supplies, and providing food and supplies for the confined “guests” in our holding facility.
